Michelle Malkin Is A Bigoted Creep

The signs were there for a long time but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. But this totally sickening praise of an asshat restaurant owner who will not serve people who do not speak English (as well as he likes) makes her site one I will not visit again. And the asshat restaurant owner is overdue for a civil rights suit.
Killer quote:

Some try to order a cheesesteak. And it bugs Vento if they can't ask for American cheese, provolone or the classic - Cheez Whiz - without pointing. "If you can't tell me what you want, I can't serve you," he said. "It's up to you. If you can't read, if you can't say the word cheese, how can I communicate with you - and why should I have to bend? "I got a business to run."

FURTHER tHOUGHTS: It's too bad storekeepers did not refuse to sell food to Ms. Malkin's and Mr. Vento's immigrant parents. We would not have them around poisoning our society with their bigotry now. Also, it is probably just as well that people who do not speak the way Mr. Vento likes do not get served at all. Who knows what such a creep would put in their sandwiches if he were compelled to serve them?

I agree the restaurant owner is an asshat, but I don't see a civil rights issue there. Crappy business practices suck, but they don't violate anyone's civil rights.

Thanks for the plug at Patterico's, Psyberian, but I would rather not impose on his bandwidth. Actually, I am a life-long Democrat. Call me a Reagan Democrat if you like. Maybe I can try to tell you a little bit about us Reagan conservatives too. We need to have a big libertarian streak. How can there be personal responsibility without personal freedom? So at times we sound like liberals. Where we depart from liberalism is the point where we, respectively, depart from personal responsibility. To members of the opposite sex, so that we do not treat them as palliatives for our libidos. To children, so that we do not treat them as a nuisances or punishments for our indulgence of our libidos. More broadly, a distrust, not of our government which is an amorphous thing and may very well be, if not perfect, the best yet in the history of our world, but of the people who from time to time we choose to administer it. So that we are also very reluctant to give them our money trusting them to spend it wisely on our behalf.

Xrlq,
I agree that crappy business practices should not be deemed to violate anyone's civil rights but a case can be made that Vento is discriminating on the basis of ethnicity or even handicap. (Imagine Puerto Ricans or deaf-mutes). Under the current interpretation of the Commerce Clause or the states' police powers, I think it can be made actionable and even criminal.

I'm not a blogger, so maybe this is a dumb question, but how would you be imposing on Patterico's bandwidth?

I'm sorry about mischaracterizing you as a republican. (At least I qualified it somewhat with "I think...")

I'm a moderate democrat, so I'm sure there are issues where we agree.

Bandwidth, as I understand it, is the amount of information that can flow to and from a site. Patterico pays for the hosting of his site and has so much bandwidth for what he pays. For topics he wants discusssed. Therefore, this discussion is better held here, using my bandwidth.

I see what you mean about bandwidth. Blu and I were getting off topic there I'll have to admit. Patterico's been pretty good about it though - he hasn't complained (although I saw Angry Clam fussing about it the other day - but not to me specifically). But I try to stay on the general topic most of the time. Maybe this is wrong of me, but if the comments carry the discussion off topic, I usually just go with it.

Does this thing allow trackbacks?

I have never been able to accomplish trackback with Blogger. It has pingback which works the same way but is limited to linked Blogger blogs.

Discriminating against the-

- deaf
- mute
- illiterate
- laryngitic
- lazy
- speaker of non-English.

Why? Well, maybe he has too much money. Simple solution: encourage people to buy the better 'steaks from Ish Kabibble's on South. Or Jim's (they seem popular). Or Steaks on South, which apparently has a ridiculously superior popularity rating in a recent poll. How'd they beat Pat's and Gino's? Probably because the idiot tourists who come to town solely to be served one of the town's worst famous steaks don't get to vote in that kind of poll.
