Hi, nk! I think I get it so it could also be a woman thing, couldn't it?
I made baklava today for the first time, and later on I'll be tasting baklava for the first time. The ingredients are wonderful and I can't wait to love it. I know you've had it -- probably many, many times. Any baklava recipe secrets?
Hi, DRJ. I have never made a dessert. I remember, vaguely, my mother making the honey syrup in a small sauce pan with water and lemon including a bit of lemon peel (which she strained out)? Did you crush the walnut and sesame with a bottle as a roller on a folded cotton tablecloth? Having toasted the sesame lightly in a frying pan before? That's all I can remember.
Our recipes are very different, but mine is from Oklahoma so it's probably not anything you would recognize. Mine uses buttery phyllo dough, pecans, and cinnamon with a glaze of vanilla, sugar, honey, and butter.
Happy Thanksgiving, nk. I'm sending good wishes your way.
