Under The Spreading Chestnut Tree

I had only read it in the book, a long time ago.

I read the Longfellow poem, too, but I don't recall being told the symbolism. Maybe I was too young for it to be included or I was too clueless to care. (this is interesting: http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?1452-Under-the-spreading-chestnut-tree )

I find this very depressing because it shows how far we've come toward Orwell's world in such a short time. But it is heartening to know that freedom-loving people have cared and worried about thxis for a long time.

Sorry for the typos. I get lazy about proofreading when I use a tablet.

How's your health, nk?

Sorry for the captcha. Spam has been driving me nuts.

I'm great, thank you, DRJ. My eye is deliriously fine, I'll be getting new glasses in ten days. My leg is ... I'm independent and that's good enough. I'm even dreaming of getting a motorcycle -- the Apteka? ^_^ Won't happen.

And yourself?
