That's wonderful.

My grandfather is 73 and my grandmother is 53 in that picture. It was a hard life. She is dressed in black because my grandfather's brother and his two sons, the youngest, my namesake, only sixteen, were executed by the Germans, and her two stepsons from my grandfather's first wife were killed in the Greek civil war -- the first by the Communists and the second by an unknown free sniper.

I'm not complaining for myself. I lived well. I had a wonderful childhood. Those were the happiest years of my life. Just appreciating the people who made it possible for me.

Was this in Greece, and did you live with them or were you visiting? It sounds like you lived with them.

They had such hardship, losing sons and family members during wars. I don't think I can comprehend hardships like those our parents and grandparents endured.

I lived there until I was almost eleven.

Xrlq thinks that would have qualified me to run for President this election season. ~_^
