The Church on the Corner

Excuse me can you help me?
Where is the church on the corner?
Old church with a school.
Kids running in and out.
I went to buy milk now I don’t remember the address.
Thirty-five … I don’t remember the other numbers.
It’s one or two houses from the church.
The street?
I used to live on Ashland.
I live in Highland Park now.
Three weeks in one place three weeks in another place three weeks in another place.
This is where I live now.
Thirty-five … I don’t remember the other numbers.
Anna?
Anna is not my sister.
She is my daughter-in-law.
My son’s wife.
The house is by the church.
The church on the corner.
An old church with a school.
Kids running in and out.
The police?
For fifty years we never called the police.
No trouble.
Now the last two years ….
My husband was a policeman for thirty years.
He retired when he was fifty-seven.
He was in Korea for two years.
No.
I’m not cold.
I have a sweater.
I’m not cold.
I have two sweaters.
I went to buy bread and milk.
No.
Not from this store.
From over there.
Now I cannot remember the number.
… fifty-five or ...fifty-two.
What street?
Rice.
We lived on Rice.
The church on the corner.
An old church.
With a school.
Kids running in and out.
The house is one or two houses away.
It’s my son’s house.
